While speaking to reporters on the third day of EU leaders’ talks on budget and recovery fund, “we made not enough progress to reach an agreement,” Greek Prime Minister Kiriakos Mitsotakis said on Sunday.

“I hope today we can break the deadlock,” Mitsotakis added. “We’re facing an unprecedented economic crisis, we cannot afford to appear divided or weak.”

Market reaction

If EU leaders end up finishing Sunday’s talks without a deal, the shared currency start the week on the back foot and weaken against its major peers, especially the USD. Last week, the EUR/USD pair gained 1.13% and closed at 1.1430.
